President Donald Trump Accuses Iran of Violating Hormuz Ceasefire

TLDR

  • President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the April 8 conditional ceasefire before its scheduled expiration.
  • Iran’s military claimed a US destroyer fired on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.
  • The two-week agreement required Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to global shipping routes.
  • Trump said the United States would secure a “great deal” with Iran to end the conflict.
  • Bitcoin fell to $75,709 after Trump’s comments but later recovered to trade near $75,900 with a 1% gain.

Tensions rose on Tuesday as Washington and Tehran accused each other of violating a conditional ceasefire set to expire within 24 hours. US President Donald Trump said Iran breached the April 8 truce several times. Meanwhile, Iran’s military claimed a US naval action in the Gulf of Oman broke the agreement and threatened retaliation.

Iran Dispute Threatens Strait of Hormuz Truce

Trump stated on Truth Social that Iran had violated the ceasefire “numerous times” since its start. He did not provide specific incidents in his post. However, he said the United States would respond if violations continued.

In contrast, Iran’s military accused a US destroyer of firing on an Iranian-flagged cargo ship. Iranian officials described the action in the Gulf of Oman as a breach of the truce. They vowed retaliation while reaffirming their commitment to defend national interests.

The two-week agreement required Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to global shipping routes. The waterway handles a large share of global oil shipments each day. Therefore, any disruption could affect international energy flows and trade stability.

The latest exchange has strained the fragile agreement before its scheduled expiration tomorrow. Both governments have increased public rhetoric as the deadline approaches. However, neither side has announced a formal withdrawal from the ceasefire.

Trump Signals Deal as Bitcoin Swings

Trump addressed the situation during an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box earlier Tuesday. He predicted the United States would secure a “great deal” with Iran to end the conflict. He said negotiations represented the only remaining path for Tehran.

Trump claimed US forces had taken out Iran’s navy and air force during recent operations. He also said the United States had removed top Iranian officials. He described these actions as bringing indirect regime change.

Despite the tension, Trump expressed confidence in future talks with Tehran. He said Iran’s new leadership appeared “much more rational” than before. He added that the country had no choice but to negotiate under current conditions.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin reacted quickly to Trump’s public comments on the conflict. The cryptocurrency fell from $76,500 to $75,709 shortly after his remarks. Later, it recovered and traded near $75,900, holding a 1% gain for the day, according to CoinGecko.

Market data showed brief volatility following the ceasefire accusations. However, trading volumes remained steady across major exchanges. CoinGecko recorded the price rebound within hours of the initial decline.

The ceasefire agreement remains in effect for more than 24 hours. Both Washington and Tehran continue to exchange statements over alleged violations. Officials have not confirmed any new military actions since Tuesday morning.
